MSC Donates Underwater Camera To SCDNR...
MSC President Lee Thomas presents Gene Hayes, SCDNR District Biologist, with an underwater video camera for use in the district's fishery studies. The camera was paid for and presented in fall of 2001 by the club's membership. MSC pledged to annually sponsor a conservation project in support of striped bass in South Carolina.
    Darrell Keith, Hydro Glow Fishing Lights, Dawsonville, Georgia, demonstrates the advantages of his lights at MSC's June meeting. Darrell designed his 12 vdc low amperage florescents to produce a green similar to that emitted by chemical light sticks in widespread use by divers to lure fish.
    The demo convinced attendees, as Darrell had to return to his truck for more lights to sell.
    Darrell also donated a Hydro Glow light for the club raffle which supports MSC's Conservation Fund and made a significant monetary pledge while agreeing to sponsor MSC's upcoming August night tournament.
The event is titled the Midlands Striper Club - Hydro Glow SCDNR Benefit Tournament.  Proceeds will be used to finance a unique
DNR study of striped bass holding techniques.
    Darrell also pledged to give $250 to 1st Place and to Big Fish winners if using a Hydro Glow light. This is a members-only event...but for those who have been waiting to join MSC, now is the time. You can join for only $15 and fish the August Hydro Glow night event...competing for regular club prize money PLUS Darrell's pledge of $250 for each category mentioned above IF you fish with a Hydro Glow light. Lake Hartwell Produces New South Carolina
State Record Striped Bass!
Caught in Lake Hartwell near Hartwell Dam on February 3rd, 2002 by Terry McConnell of Eastoneolle, Georgia.
59 1/2 pounds, 47 3/4 inches TL, 32 1/8 girth
Record verified on state certified scales at Garrett's.
    Also at the meeting were John Byrne & Mark Schmidt of AnglersChannel.com, who gave an interesting update on their site's newest features and donated an annual membership for the club raffle.
    AnglersChannel.com, based in Rock Hill SC, is a unique online database web site dedicated to freshwater anglers. The site offers anglers a plethora of database, weather, statistical and forum options on the lakes of your choice across the Southeast.
D.W. "Waylon" Jennings, a member since March, was the proud winner of a Hydro Glow light compliments of company owner Darrell Keith.
    In addition, Robert Holson of Southern Bait Tanks, Edgefield SC, was on hand to visit and answer questions about his bait tanks and mention his new web site at www.southernbaittanks.com. Robert pledged a bait tank to MSC's Conservation Fund for a future meeting raffle.
Members wasted no time making their best deal on
a Hydro Glow light by bartering with Darrell. The bartering didn't work, but numerous lights went home with the crowd.
